Frequently Asked Questions:
Answers

  1. What are the operating systems that your product supports?
    • Windows 2000, 2003, 2008 Servers
    • Windows 2000, XP, Vista, Windows 7 Workstations
    • Linux, Unix, Novell, Mac OSX, AS400

We are one of the few solutions that can handle AS400 and Unix/Linux backups. Our remote backup service is an enterprise class product that was originally designed for use in the data center and large corporations. There are very few products that we cannot backup.

  2. What mail servers does RBS support?
Microsoft Exchange, Novell GroupWise and Lotus Notes are supported as well as other mail and collaboration programs. There are several vendors on the market that our Remote Backup Service can support as well. Contact us for an evaluation of your Messaging systems.

  3. Can RBS backup live databases and which ones?
Microsoft SQL Server, MYSQL, Oracle, Sybase just to name a few.

Our product is very robust and can backup many types of databases even if not listed here. We perform an upfront analysis of your infrastructure to determine if we can backup your database before you purchase our product.

  4. Can I download your software and sign up on the web for your service?
Although we could certainly provide that capability we choose not to for the following reasons. Every network is different and there is no one size fits all. BlueTech performs a free analysis of your network to determine the specifications, needs and applications running in your environment. We also calculate the amount of intitial data to be backed up and perform an analysis of your projected growth rate so your monthly costs are predictable. We take our customers input so we can understand their unique situation and formulate a plan that fits them, some of our competitors products just do not work in certain network environments.

  5. Do I have to install software (aka an agent) on the machines to be backed up?
No, you only install our DS client software on one machine of your choice (size of network or amount of data to be backed up determines whether this machine is a dedicated server/workstation or a shared machine). This one DS Client handles all the backups for every machine or unit on your network.

  6. I don't trust online backups, how do i know that noone at the data center is accessing my data?
Our system is fully encrypted and only you have the key. We do not hold a key in escrow like some of our competitors do in case you lose it, this defeats the purpose of security. If you lose your key, your backup data is gone, we cannot access it. This may be troubling to some but we believe that noone else should hold copies of your encryption keys, only you.

  7. Is there a charge or license fee per server/workstation that is backed up?
No, BlueTech's RBS is an agentless solution that only charges per GB stored, that's it. We have no hidden fees, per machine cost or any types of gotcha's. Your monthly bill will be your cost per GB x's the amount of GB's stored on our servers.

  8. Some companies charge more for higher encryption, is there an additional cost for 256 bit AES encryption?
No, our cost is straightforward, all our data is encrypted using 256 bit AES encryption and is included in the price you pay per GB. You have the option to use 128 bit encryption as well if you choose to but the cost is the same for both.

  9. How often can i backup my data?
You may backup your data as many times a day as you want, from daily backups to hourly ones, the choice is yours.

  10. What is a first level restore "onsite copies" and what's the difference between keeping a backup on my own external drives (or network attached storage)?
This depends on the hard drive capacity of the machine you choose to run the DS-Client on. You have the option to maintain one or a few copies of your latest backups locally on that machines hard drive so you may restore from this machine and not have to access a restore through the internet. These copies are in addition (a mirror) to the offsite copies that you will be creating daily and available on our secure TierIV data center. This provides a "first level" restore option in case your data gets accidentally deleted, corrupted or there is a hardware failure on the machines who's data you need to recover. In a situation where your entire site goes down or all data is somehow corrupted then you will always have access to the offsite copies to restore your critical data fast. The DS-Client handles the entire process in both cases.

  11. Will BlueTech's Remote Backup Solution help me meet HIPAA and Sarbanes-Oxley Compliance?
Although we cannot control other aspects of HIPAA and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance we can confidently help you meet record retention regulations. We provide secure, audited, 24/7 x 365 and 99.99% uptime to our SAS70 Type II certified Tier IV data centers. What this means is that your data is stored and protected by the highest industry standards available for remote storage. Your data can be archived in our many data centers for periods of 1, 5, 7 and 10 years if neccessary.

  12. What is the pricing for the Remote Backup Service?
